College
Vaccine Religious Exemption
changed to include Personal, Religious Beliefs
In
a letter dated July 25, 2002, to IVAC spokeswoman, Barbara Mullarkey,
Illinois Department of Health's Program Administrator, Richard Galati
writes
"I
received your recent fax requesting a statement in regards to the
change in the religious objection exemption for college students.
Attached is a copy of the section of the College Immunization Code/Part
694 (Section 694.210) that provides for an exemption based upon
religious beliefs. The effective date of this adopted revision in
the College Immunization Code is July 1, 2002.
As
you are aware, the recently adopted revision to the religious exemption
in the College immunization Code deleted the provision that religious
objections to immunization be based on the ground that they conflict
with the tenet and practices of a recognized church or religious
organization, of which the student is an adherent or member.
The change in the religious objection exemption in the College Immunization
Code was made in order for it to be consistent with the religious
exemption for school-age children as set fort in the Child Health
Examination Cde/Part665.
